Last month, we saw two senior players depart in Chris Wood and Jonjo Shelvey, with both sealing January moves to Nottingham Forest.
Wood has already played twice for the Reds, making his debut at the City Ground in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Leeds, while Shelvey is yet to feature since he sealed a deadline day switch.
Starting with the Kiwi, it seems Forest supporters are not impressed by what they’ve seen from the big man, with 31-year-old torn to shreds on Twitter and criticised for some of the limitations Toon fans flagged up during his time on Tyneside.

Not hating but Chris Wood has not done a single thing in his first two games for Forest. Forest may as well have 10 men.

I know it’s early on but whoever scouted and thought Wood was what we needed got it badly wrong. Big target man. No touch. No speed. It’s just not how we set up with Johnson and MGW. Very odd.

There’s no doubt that Chris Wood could do a job for a certain type of team, but a fast-moving counter attacking side like us is not it. Get Surridge on.
Chris Wood getting a lot of abuse, can’t defend it so much today. He has barely seen the ball but when he has he has either lost it or made a poor decision.
Wood slows things down and has barely won a thing in the air for his size. Looks low on confidence and doesn’t fit this system at all. May as well be playing with 10 men.
On the flip side, it seems Forest fans are delighted to bring in Jonjo Shelvey. He’s yet to feature under Steve Cooper, but it seems most are encouraged by the deadline day move.

Signing Shelvey will be a massive boost in midfield at the minute. He will provide that experience in their that we miss at certain time of games
Buzzing to get Jonjo. He’ll offer the quality our midfield lacks if he can get (and stay) fit.
It wasn’t long ago people wanted Shelvey in the England squad. Brings experience and so much passing ability to released Johnson and Gibbs-White.
Newcastle fans have nothing but good things to say about Shelvey. Thought he was a bad egg but clearly not. Very solid signing.
A few days ago I was sceptical about Shelvey signing for us, the views of #NUFC fans have made me change my opinion, its looking like a very savvy move by the looks of things.
You don’t get a reception like that if your not either a 1. Top player or 2. A great guy. He will fit in well for us 100%.
I’m really on board with the Shelvey signing. The way we play with a 3 in midfield means we’ll put legs around him. He has the passing range that we lack. Prem quality and experience over the next couple of seasons.
At 30 years old and over 200 appearances, Shelvey gives us depth and experience. Technically a very good player with a great passing range. Will do the unfashionable job in midfield and keep us ticking. Colback to leave in the summer.
Shelvey will be a quality signing I reckon. His passing and understanding of the game can be very key for us.
All I got from the Forest fans is a hint that they are possibly not the best educated bunch.
