Joelinton is one mistimed tackle away from a two-math ban in the Premier League after picking up his ninth caution of the season in our 1-1 draw with Bournemouth.
Should he go in the book during this weekend’s clash with Liverpool at St James’ Park, he’d be suspended for upcoming games against Man City and Wolves.
The good news, however, is that yellow cards (unlike reds) do NOT carry over into the Carabao Cup, meaning the Brazilian won’t be forced to sit out next Sunday’s final at Wembley.
It is another concern for Eddie Howe, though. Ever since we opted against signing a midfielder on deadline day, we’ve been hit with issues in our engine room.
First Bruno Guimaraes saw red in our semi-final second leg against Southampton, handing him a three-game ban. Then, after Joe Willock limped off at Saturday night with a hamstring issue, Joelinton picked up his ninth yellow of the season with a silly foul.
Elsewhere, Anthony Gordon picked up his seventh booking over the weekend, meaning he’ll face a two-game ban should he receive three more cautions between now and the cut-off point (after our 32nd fixture).
