Newcastle set for major summer setback as Toon coach agrees to Man City move – Report

As revealed by The Mail, Eddie Howe has suffered a huge loss to his coaching team after Manchester City poached Newcastle’s coaching analyst Mark Leyland after just 14 months on Tyneside.

Leyland had received huge praise from Howe after joining from Liverpool midway through last season and having a ‘big impact’ on the club’s transformation from being relegation threatened to mid-table.

It will obviously be a huge disappointment to Howe to be losing one of his key members of staff, particularly after have such a great run of form since he joined the club.

The former Reds coach will now leave at the end of the season, leaving a big hole to fill behind-the-scenes this summer.

Man City are clearly big admirers of Leyland’s ability to combine his analytical work with coaching the first team and he will now work in a new international position across all of the clubs in the City Group.

Speaking last season, Howe said this about Leyland: “Mark has had a big impact. He’s played a huge part in what we’ve done this season. He’s one of a number of people behind the scenes that have put a tireless amount of work in to try and improve the team. We love him to bits and he’s been an integral part of our team.”
