Steve Nickson sends scouts to watch ‘next Erling Haaland’ as Toon eye summer swoop – Report

As reported by The Chronicle, Newcastle’s head of recruitment Steve Nickson has sent scouts to watch over Atalanta wonderkid Rasmus Højlund as the hunt for young stars continues. 

The 20-year-old has emerged as a special talent in Serie A this season with six goals and two assists in his 19 league appearances this season, helping push Atalanta into third. 

He’s been compared to Erling Haaland for his unique blend of pace and presence, with the 6ft 3′ Scandinavian clocking one of the top speeds in Serie A this season.

His great form has also earned him a call-up to the Danish Under-21s and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the forward selected for the first team some time in the next 12 months. 

Despite signing for the Italian side for around €17m just last summer, Højlund could be made available for the right price with many European sides sure to be watching over his situation. 

A move for the youngster would certainly certainly suit our transfer strategy of buying potential and would be a great back-up to have for both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak next season.
