Mystery signing edging closer as Newcastle make ‘good progress’ over summer deal – Report

According to The Chronicle, work for the summer window is ‘well under way’ with Newcastle already making ‘good progress’ on one deal that we have been ‘pursuing’ in the last few months.

It has been reported that head of recruitment Steve Nickson has just returned on Tyneside following a number of scouting missions to prepare for a what will hopefully be a very busy window.

Many of our targets may depend on whether or not we qualify for the Champions League next season, with the club wanting to make multiple marquee signings if the money is there.

Players like James Maddison, who we have been chasing for some time now, may be waiting for a move to a top four side, so it would certainly give us a huge advantage over others who miss out. Moussa Diaby may also fall into that category, with the Bayer Leverkusen winger believed to be back on our radar after intense interest last summer.

There is also expected to be a big clear-out in the summer with many long-serving players set to depart, so it’s safe to say there will be plenty of transfer rumours to talk about in the next few months.
