Speaking after our Carabao Cup final defeat, Eddie Howe was understandably ‘disappointed’, admitting we ‘didn’t create enough’, but couldn’t fault the players’ efforts after they gave everything for the team.
On Karius, who made his debut for the club, Howe praised his ‘demeanour and distribution’ and believed that the keeper can be ‘very proud’ of his performance on the day.
In terms of the future, the boss revealed that the players will be ‘desperate to get back and win a trophy’ and will use this experience as ‘motivation’ to win the supporters a trophy that they ‘deserve’.
Howe did admit that we haven’t been as ‘free-flowing’ when it comes to scoring in recent weeks – just three league goals in 2023 – and that it is something that he wants to ‘work on’ as we look to secure a European finish.
The 45-year-old described the pre-match display from the fans as ‘truly incredible’ and wanted to say a ‘big thank you’ to the support that they have given the team over the last few days.

Despite the result, everyone can look back on this experience with an air of ‘positivity’ as Howe suggests. We will hopefully continue to improve and grow to make sure our next visit to the capital is a more successful trip.
