Newcastle plan summer move for Premier League CB to replace Jamaal Lascelles – Report

Newcastle are planning a summer move for Wolverhampton’s Max Kilman, but will face stiff competition after his impressive performances, as reported by Football Insider

The same outlet also report that Jamaal Lascelles is expected to leave this summer amid interest from Nottingham Forest, so it seems Kilman may be on our radar as a potential replacement.

With European football within reach, we will certainly need to improve our squad depth, and the 25-year-old defender has shown real quality while playing in a poor Wolves side.

The 6ft 4′ defender has been impressive so far this season after appearing in all 24 of their Premier League games, attracting the attention of some top clubs with his commanding presence and ability with the ball at his feet.

Despite already having a great defensive partnership with Sven Botman and Fabian Schar, there is a lack of quality beyond the duo, and Kilman could be key for rotation particularly in a European campaign.

That said, it won’t be easy to bring the centre-back to Tyneside if he was brought in to cover for our current pair. A number of clubs are thought to be after his signature and he only recently signed a new deal at the Molineux, keeping him there until 2025.

  1. This is where we go from small club problems i.e. no strength in depth, to big club problems – will players starting every game for their current club come to us as back up? Schar is 30 from memory so more of a potential replacement but for others it could be more tricky.

  2. Why would be looking for a third left footed centre half, when we need a right footer to replace Lascelles?

Indeed and he’s only likely to leave wolves if they are relegated
