Saint-Maximin joins nine Toon stars in releasing emotional statement after Wembley heartbreak

The dust is beginning to settle following Sunday’s heartbreaking defeat at Wembley, where our 68 year wait for a domestic trophy continues after Man Utd left London with the Carabao Cup.

We shared Bruno Guimaraes heartfelt message, Eddie Howe’s post-match press conference and Amanda Staveley’s words of hope, but we’ve since seen a host of Newcastle United stars speak out on social media.

Here’s what the players have had to say, starting with Allan Saint-Maximin’s emotional message to Toon fans on Instagram:

Allan Saint-Maximin:

“I am really disappointed to be honest with you… This was one of the most important game of my career personally. I really wanted to give everything, all the fans with the amazing support they gave us deserved this win ! Unfortunately even when you give your best, it’s sometimes not enough …🖤🤍 This shot could have changed the issues of the game … I will make sure to work hard towards our goals & find solutions to help the team in the best way possible. Now our focus is on the rest of the season.”

Kieran Trippier:

“I thought we gave everything today, unfortunately it wasn’t enough. Congrats to Manchester Utd. On a personal note, @nufc fans you was absolutely incredible today, we will come again. Thank you 🖤”

“Still hard to find words. Since I came to Newcastle my dream was to win a trophy for this club and his fan. To give all the people around this Club what they deserve. Yesterday was not that day but sometimes thats football. I want to say thank you for the incredible support, it means so much to me and I am truly thankful to be part of this amazing Club 🖤🤍 Now is time to get up and fight for the things we want to achieve this season. I will leave my heart on the pitch like I always do and I will do everything I can for black and white. I am sure one day we are going to lift a trophy together!”

Loris Karius:

“An emotional day for me coming back after such a long time. We tried our best, but unfortunately not the result we wanted. I’m sure this is only the beginning for this club. Fans you were amazing, thank you for your incredible support! 🖤🤍”

Callum Wilson:

“Sorry to all you amazing travelling fans that we couldn’t get the result we all so badly wanted. You made the atmosphere unreal and we will never take that for granted! We all gave our best but on this occasion our best wasn’t good enough! 😔 Back to focusing on the League and finishing strong. Wembley we will be back! So proud to be a part of this team which has come such a long way in a short space of time. The future is bright for sure! 🖤🤍”
