Saudi PIF eye Man City model, six summer signings and St James’ Park investment – Report

Newcastle’s Saudi-backed owners are ‘full behind’ making the Magpies one of the top clubs in the country with a series of ambitious investment plans in place, according to 90min.

The report states that up to six summer signings will be targeted – Howe is believed to want James Maddison along with two forwards, a central midfielder, left-back and centre-back – with club chiefs also working hard to expand St James’ Park buying back the Strawberry Place site sold by Mike Ashley.

We are also looking to emulate Man City’s model in building a multi-club organisation – the City Group now own 12 clubs around the world and have become a global brand.

It has been suggested that the first club ‘on Newcastle’s radar’ could be from either France or Belgium, helping aid our relations abroad and player development as we look to send youngsters out on loan.

Back to first-team investment, 90min add that we are ‘confident’ of landing James Maddison following long-term interest in the Leicester City star, but it’s thought Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby and Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic remain on our radar.

Speaking about our summer plans, Howe said: “I hope we are a different Newcastle and improving continually. The players have done incredibly well to elevate us to an incredible position, but we are not the finished article and it only gets harder because the competition will improve.

“We are constantly assessing and evaluating where we need to improve.”
