Good and bad news for Newcastle trio as Southgate names ex-Mag in 25-man England squad

Newcastle United duo Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier have once again been called up to the England squad for European Qualifiers later this month – but Callum Wilson has been replaced by Ivan Toney.

Wilson was selected by Gareth Southgate for the World Cup after a great run of form in the build-up to the tournament – Southgate was even in attendance when he netted in a 5-1 victory over Brentford.

However, since the turn of the year, the 31-year-old has only found the back of the net once and has seen his spot taken up by the in-form Toney who was unlucky to miss out on that World Cup selection.

There have been questions over the striker’s fitness since returning from Qatar, and Howe himself has even admitted that he has been missing training recently, so he will be keen to get back to his best as soon as possible.

On the other hand, veteran members of the squad Pope and Trippier will be hoping to play big parts in the Three Lions fixtures after having great individual seasons in the North East.

Here’s the 25-man England squad in full ahead of Italy and Ukraine:
