After speaking to ‘sources within the club’, The Telegraph have revealed six positions Eddie Howe plans to strengthen this summer, naming a number of players identified as early targets.
The report states that the following areas will be targeted:
- A right-sided centre-back
- An attacking left-back
- A holding midfielder
- A creative midfielder
- A versatile wide forward
- A powerful striker
The piece then goes on to reveal a couple of players under consideration, with James Maddison, Ruben Neves, Scott McTominay, Conor Gallagher, Kieran Tierney all mentioned.
It’s not yet clear of Arsenal will sell Tierney – who featured in their 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday – while Gallagher is a player we’ve tried to sign ‘several times.’
Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga is also mentioned, but we’re expected to face ‘stiff competition’ should we pursue a deal for the 20-year-old Spaniard.
No names are given when it comes to centre-backs, a wide forward or striker, although it’s thought Howe wants another big man up top who can offer an aerial threat, hold up the ball and play alongside Isak.
As we saw in January we can “prioritise” all we want, but actually “buying” is a different thing altogether!
