According to new reports, Eddie Howe could ask the club to offer new deals to Paul Dummett and Loris Karius.
Both are out of contract this summer, but The Athletic report that the Newcastle United boss is ‘considering’ keeping both.
Karius is currently our third choice option behind Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka but didn’t let us down in the Carabao Cup final. I can see the sense in keeping him, as he adds experience and quality as a back-up option, yet any extension for Dummett would be a real surprise.
Yes, he is a local lad who may be great behind the scenes, however, he’s not featured once in the Premier League since Howe took the job almost 18 months ago and has played just once over the past year; starting in a Carabao Cup win over Tranmere.
Elsewhere, fellow out of contract Mags Matt Ritchie, Mark Gillespie, Matty Longstaff and Ciaran Clark are all ‘expected to leave.’
Both Ritchie and Clark were signed prior to our promotion season under Rafa Benitez, while Matty Longstaff has struggled to kick on after some disappointing loan spells and a season-ending knee injury picked up last month.
