Nick De Marco responds to Saudi takeover concerns after calls to reinvestigate £300m deal

Nick De Marco – the lawyer who represented the club during the takeover process – believes the Premier League will NOT reinvestigate PIF’s takeover of the club back in October 2021.

Questions were raised about the Saudi-backed consortium during a court dispute between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf last week. As a result, Premier League chief Richard Masters was quizzed in Westminster just a few days ago, but refused to comment on any potential proceedings.

At the time of the takeover, the Saudi Arabian government had promised the league that they would not exercise control of the club, but many have disputed this.

However, former representative of the club De Marco has played down the chances of the Premier League re-opening this investigating, stating ‘I don’t think they need to’. Here’s what he told CityAM when asked about the matter:

“No, I don’t think the Premier League will look into this, because I don’t think they need to.

“For that reason, nothing that has happened in the LIV case, it seems to me, changes any of that.

“There has been no suggestion that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has now changed its mind and is somehow exercising control over Newcastle, so I don’t believe this will lead to any change.”
