New name linked with Newcastle move as Toon eye Europa League goal-machine

According to Mexican outlet La Razón, Newcastle are showing interest in signing Feyenoord top scorer Santiago Giménez.

The 21-year-old has been very impressive in his debut season for the Dutch giants, racking up 17 goals and four assists in 36 appearances so far.

Five of those goals have come in seven Europa League appearances for Feyenoord – who are due to face Jose Mourinho’s Roma in the quarter finals this week – while he’s also bagged twice in nine appearances for Mexico.

The forward signed for the Eredivisie club for around €4m, but it is believed that his great form has caused his value to more than double.

Giménez is also keen to work his way back into the Mexican national team following his omission for the Word Cup and a move to a big club playing European football could help his case.

Time will tell if there’s any truth in our reported interest, however I would expect a striker to arrive this summer as a long-term replacement for Chris Wood.
