Jamie Reuben says what every fan is thinking after Newcastle star produces moment of magic

Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben has called for Gareth Southgate to hand Joe Willock his first England call-up, feeling a Three Lions phone call must be ‘close’ after yet another dazzling display.

The 23-year-old put in a sensational performance in Sunday’s 6-1 victory over Spurs and has to be playing his way into contention.

His assist for the fourth goal – a perfectly weighted pass with the outside of his boot to the feet of Alexander Isak – was nothing short of spectacular and would be getting high praise if delivered from the likes of Kevin De Bruyne.

While Bruno may attract more media attention, Willock’s impact on this team has gone under the radar, seeing him become one of the most underrated midfielders in the league.

With the likes of Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount consistently receiving call-ups, you have to think a phone call from Gareth Southgate must be just round the corner for the ex-Arsenal man. Here’s what Reuben tweeted after the game, followed by THAT pass from Willock:

He was excellent yesterday both on and off the ball .. now about his shooting

I agree he could score more, but getting into good positions is half the battle and he does that. We all saw during that loan spell how clinical he could be, so I’m sure the goals will come.

  4. Actually when longstaff are playing or should I say running around the pitch like a mad dog, it free Bruno up and let him have the time and space to play even with injuries. Longstaff provide more towards the team play and he looks like a shadow in the team doing his part unnoticeable. Although he is not as skilful, but he has an ability to read his teammates and do all those running . He is a very good support core of the team. How many time have he got into space and how many shooting chance presented to him. It not like they rest are searching for him, but he ran into the magic space. While Wilock doing the same but he is still not like longstaff covering defence and right wing. I am not saying wilock are bad just that he is more towards an attacker rather then well all rounder.

Trippier has had more bad games than Longstaff this season. Burn has been off for a few games now. Murphy has been fantastic recently. Have you watched any games since 2021?
