Eddie Howe insists there is “more to come” from Anthony Gordon, believing we’ve only seen small glimpses of what he’s capable of.
The 22-year-old has only started twice for the club since sealing a £40m move from Everton – one of which a 2-0 defeat at Man City and the other that 3-0 battering at Aston Villa.
However, the boss insists we are yet to see him hit his stride in a black and white shirt, insisting he’ll be a “high quality player” for us in years to come.
Gordon return to former club Everton tonight and is expected to receive a hostile reception, but Howe believes he’s “in a good place” and well equipped to cope ahead the game.
Here’s what he had to say on all of the above, starting with his comments on the winger’s slow start to life at St James’ Park.
Howe on Gordon’s form since arriving on Tyneside:
“We haven’t seen the best of Anthony Gordon.
“There is more to come from him. We have seen glimpses of what he can do.
“I am really pleased with him and I know he will be a high quality player for us in the future”.
Howe on Gordon’s return to Goodison Park tonight:
“I can only really comment on the player I’ve seen and he’s been very good.
“He’s trained very well and he’s passionate, wants to achieve and wants to do well in his career. He’s in a good place and he’s looking forward to the game.
“He’s seen the Everton crowd many times, so he’ll have no surprises as to what to expect. Hopefully he’s seen enough to be robust enough to deal with what happens.“
