Gordon and Isak start and injured Mag ruled out – Official Newcastle team news vs Southampton

The team sheets are in ahead of today’s 2pm kick-off at St James’ Park, where Newcastle take on bottom of the table Southampton.

Here’s the side Eddie Howe has gone with, which features FOUR changes from Thursday’s 4-1 win at Everton:

STARTING XI: Pope – Trippier, Schar, Botman, Burn – Willock, Bruno, Joelinton – Murphy, Isak, Gordon.

SUBS: Dubravka, Dummett, Wilson, Ritchie, Lewis, Targett, Manquillo, Almiron, Anderson.

So, a first home start for Anthony Gordon, with Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn coming into the side at Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Matt Targett’s expense.

Sean Longstaff misses out with the ankle injury that forced him off at Goodison Park, with reports suggesting he could even sit out the remainder of the season. His absence means Joelinton drops back into midfield.

As expected, Allan Saint-Maximin is absent again. Hopefully return to the squad for next week’s clash with Arsenal.

For the visitors, James Ward-Prowse starts, despite being forced off with illness in their 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Thursday night. Here’s their starting 11 in full:
