On Wednesday morning, some big claims arrived from Spain regarding a potential move to St James’ Park for Raphinha.
Catalan journalist Gerard Romero reported that Newcastle had made a ‘verbal proposal’ worth £70m for the Barcelona winger – but it hasn’t taken long for this to be shot down by sources on Tyneside.
The fee mentioned seemed excessive and unlike tough negotiator Dan Ashworth, but Raphinha himself would tick plenty of boxes as a Premier League proven right-winger with pace and quality.
Reacting to the reports coming from Spain, The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has been ‘reliably informed by multiple sources’ that there is ‘no truth’ in claims we’ve made a verbal offer.
Not only that, it’s his understanding Newcastle don’t intend to make a move for the Brazilian this summer, suggesting we’ll be looking elsewhere in our search for a right-sided winger.
