Toon flop suffers relegation alongside ex-Mag – Permanent deal dead ahead of Newcastle return

Newcastle loanee Jeff Hendrick has suffered relegation to League One with Reading alongside former Toon striker Andy Carroll after a Huddersfield victory sealed their fate.

The Irish international joined the Royals last summer with his future on Tyneside in serious doubt, while Carroll followed just a couple of months later.

Before their final game today, Reading were officially been relegated to the third division after Huddersfield beat Sheffield United 1-0 on Thursday night.

This now puts the 31-year-old’s future in serious doubt. Reading had confirmed their interest in signing him permanently if they had stayed up, but relegation means his agent will be busy exploring other options as we speak.

Looking back, it shows how far we’ve come that he was a regular in our first team under Steve Bruce just over 18 months ago

Elsewhere, fellow loanee Ciaran Clark has played a bit-part role in Sheffield United’s promotion back to the Premier League, bit he’s unlikely to extend his stay and will be available on a free transfer this summer.
