Newcastle eye £50m talent & Leipzig star after ‘dropping interest’ in long-term target – Report

Despite regular links with a move to St James’ Park, a new report claims Newcastle United have ‘dropped their interest’ in Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby.

This comes from The Mail, who report that we’re now eyeing up Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Willams and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai instead.

No reasons are given in the piece, but it’s claimed Diaby has ‘drifted out of contention’ as the club whittle down their key targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with Williams. The Athletic reported that the 20-year-old was almost pursued in January as an alternative to Anthony Gordon, stating that we’ve taken a close look at the Spanish international since then.

As for Szoboszlai, Sky Germany revealed just last week that we have sent scouts to watch the Hungarian on several occasions over the past few months.

Williams has a £50m release clause in his contract at Bilbao and has also received interest from Aston Villa and Arsenal.
