Newcastle planning record bid if club secure Champions League football – The Independent

According to Miguel Delaney at The Independent, Newcastle are considering a club-record bid for Declan Rice should we go on to secure Champions League football.

West Ham have placed a £100m price tag on the midfielder’s head, but the report states that the Hammers are likely accept an offer of around £90m.

A lot of this is depending on us playing in the Champions League next season, with Rice wanting to play at the very highest level. However, some claim that he prefers to remain in London, with TalkSPORT recently reporting that he’s likely to end up at Arsenal.

Should we fail in our bid for Rice, The Independent reckon we’ll move for Man Utd’s Scott McTominay; who could pursue a transfer away from Old Trafford at the end of the season.

It’s well documented that Howe is a big fan of he 26-year-old, with The Telegraph confirming our interest in the Scottish international back in March.

Moving from Rice to McTominay would be quite underwhelming, but we will need to add strength in depth to our squad this summer ahead of what promises to be a busy and tiring 2023/24 campaign.

  1. A bid “IF” we qualify for the Champions League.
Made heavy weather of Southampton at home, Beaten of an Arsenal side who were not on great form and a very lucky draw against a poor Leeds outfit.
We are not bossing the midfield, our defence has started to leak goals and upfront I don’t think we know our best combination.
Lack of squad depth is the major issue with Joelinton not as effective in the Longstaff role.
We could do with a Tottenhamesque display for the next home games Leicester are fighting for their Premier League status and Brighton are nobody’s pushover.
Declan Rice sitting in front of the back four would be great but who would you drop?
