Newcastle now in pole position to seal first summer signing – The Times

The Times have reported that Newcastle are now the favourites to sign Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney; who is ‘expected’ to make the move to St James’ Park.

After sealing a European finish with three games to go, Eddie Howe is set to be handed a healthy budget to add quality and depth to his current squad.

An orthodox left-back is thought to be one of his priorities and Tierney fits the bill, offering something different to Dan Burn. He’ll also adds European experience and leadership, having captained Arsenal, Celtic and Scotland before.

The 25-year-old is now expected to move to the North East in the coming months, with Oleksandr Zinchenko moving ahead of him in the pecking order.

A fee of around £30m could be enough to secure the Scotsman and should hopefully leave enough in the budget for a right-sided centre-back, midfielder and wide forward.
