A 90th minute equaliser from Roberto Firmino handed Liverpool a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa this afternoon – a result which leaves Newcastle with a massive chance of securing Champions League football.
Had the Reds lost, a top-four finish would’ve been secured, but their late equaliser means the situation is clear – pick up just a point in either of our two remaining games against Leicester and Chelsea and a return to Europe’s elite will be ours for the first time in 21 years.
Even if we lose both games, it would then come down to goal difference should Liverpool win at Southampton on the final day of the season. We are currently SEVEN goals better off then Jurgen Klopp’s side, so the odds are stacked in our favour. Win or draw against relegation battling Leicester on Monday night and a top-four finish is secured!
Aston Villa will be gutted to have lost their lead late on. They missed a penalty in the first half through Ollie Watkins, but took a deserved lead as Jacob Ramsey fired home to send Emery’s side 1-0 up.
Liverpool then equalised through Firmino – just before 10 (yes TEN) minutes of stoppage time was added on. The home side huffed and puffed but Villa held on.
Bring on Monday!
Here’s the Premier League table following today’s 1-1 draw on Merseyside.
If we lose both games we will at best be only 5 gd ahead. They play soton and already have scored far more goals than us. Not a given

Clip Klop gets an extra 7 minutes at half time and 10 minutes at full time, it is surprising the officials didn’t give them another 45 minutes with some of the outrageous decisions they have had from VAR and referees of late.
But you do get what you deserve when you miss out on the Champions League because of all the diving cheating and whinging that goes on😂at Liverpool.
Well done Villa who will be a real threat next season.
