Callum Wilson reveals truth behind mid-season struggles & recent form – Well worth a watch

Callum Wilson has revealed how the World Cup took a ‘physical and mental’ toll on him but that a mid-season break ‘rejuvenated’ him and sparked his incredible goalscoring run to prove his doubters wrong.

The striker went through a difficult period after returning from international duty. Things just weren’t clicking, seeing him score just once in 12 games; his poorest spell in a black and white shirt.

In a recent interview for NUFC TV, Wilson put his struggles down to the lack of a break between the World Cup and his return to club football, while everyone else had a month off. 

However, the 31-year-old has turned his form completely around – scored more goals than anyone else in Europe since April – and has revealed that a mid-season break in the Middle East was exactly what he needed to ‘reset’, allowing him to prove the doubters wrong and score an incredible 11 times since April.

Wilson now has 18 goals in the Premier League but is targeting 20 for the first time in his career having done so in both League One and the Championship. Watch what he had to say below:
