Over the past week, Gabri Veiga has been heavily linked with a summer move to St James’ Park, with one Spanish outlet claiming we are ‘very close’ to sealing a deal.
Last night, the 21-year-old started in Celta Vigo’s final day meeting with Barcelona; a huge game that could’ve seen them relegated had results gone against them.
Veiga opened the scoring just before the break with a lovely low finish and then made it two with his 11th goal of the season with 25 minutes remaining. They went on to win 2-1 and the midfielder’s reaction to being subbed off said it all. He tapped the badge as left the field then burst into tears soon after; a clear sign he’d just played his last game for the club?
It seems clear he’ll leave this summer, with his €40m deemed a potential bargain for one of the top young midfielders in Europe. Barcelona are thought to be big admirers, but Fabrizio Romano believes a Premier League move looks on the cards.
