Allan Saint-Maximin update arrives in new report – Howe’s stance, price tag and clubs keen

After admitting last night that his career is “at a turning point”, Mark Douglas at iNews has issued an update on Allan Saint-Maximin’s future.

The North-East reporter states that Newcastle’s stance is conflicted. Eddie Howe ‘would like to keep’ the Frenchman at St James’ Park ahead of a Champions League campaign set to stretch the squad.

He’ll get game time due to the number of fixtures coming our way, but the club know selling wisely could boost our budget, help us work within FFP and raise funds for the likes of James Maddison and Kieran Tierney, amongst others. Toon chiefs know he’s our most sellable asset and would be willing to speak if the ‘right offer’ – around the £40m mark – arrived this summer.

Douglas adds that Arsenal and Chelsea have shown interest in the past, but refused to go near our asking price at the time. AC Milan are another unlikely to meet our demands and Inter Milan are described as ‘another option.’

In his Instagram post on Monday night, the winger said: “I always tried my best to help the club in the best way possible, even by playing injured.

“This year has been one of the most difficult year emotionally, you are not able to know that as I keep personal things for myself, but I lost some really important people, and that is nothing compared to all the things that happened in my life this year.

“But I always tried to be present on the pitch and give everything.”

  1. A few comments on your article Olly.

“After admitting last night that his career is “at a turning point”, Mark Douglas at iNews has issued an update on Allan Saint-Maximin’s future.”
Why is Mark Douglas’s career at a turning point?

Howe’s “stance” relating to ASMs instagram comment was actually made long before ASMs statement. Not so much an update as a downdate.

I very much doubt that ASM is our most sellable asset. Other teams will also see the inconsistency, the fact that he only turns up when he feels like it and would have difficulty finishing a pizza. They might want a bit more end product for the price we would be asking.
Despite our fans’s adoration for him it will take more to make another club want him than giving the odd fan a watch that cost him what he earns standing at the edge of the box waiting for a corner to be taken.

Personally I would suggest that Pope, Trippier, Botman, Joelinton, Bruno and Isak are all much more sellable.

I think other teams would be more interested in

  2. Newcastle could get value going after Brentford’s 23year old Bryan Mbaumo he would fit in with our system and can score individual goals .

  3. Brilliant player on his day but those days are few and far between with the amount of time spent injured each season a major issue if you really want to contribute to the team.
He does create a lot of chances when playing but some of our players are very wasteful when they get them which adds to the frustration for both him and the fans.
We are well stocked on the left hand side and would sometimes prefer to see him play there rather than Almiron provided he put a real shift in.
All things considered I would sell.

  4. In my opinion he is more than capable of being a brilliant player, we have seen snippets of this. However, I think he is lazy and a fair weather player only. You can guarantee he will be injured or ill during the winter months. I say, get him sold and invest in someone that wants to play the whole season and will give their all in every game.
