£40m Toon target closing in on surprise move to Bayern Munich – Fabrizio Romano

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich are closing in on the signing of Newcastle target Kim Min-Jae, with his £40m release clause set to be available from July. 

The race for the Napoli centre-back had previously been between ourselves and Man United, but the German champions have come forward out of the blue and a deal is ‘advancing fast.’

For us it would certainly be a massive coup and a huge statement of intent in this window – the South Korean was one of the top performing players in Serie A last season – but it would take a lot of convincing to persuade the centre-back to Tyneside. A

The 26-year-old defender is believed to be keen on the move after Bayern ‘presented their project’, so it seems this one may be getting away from us. Craig Hope at The Mail confirmed our interest a few days ago, but he added that his wage demands were proving problematic.

With restricted funds, a £40m move for such an elite player would be incredible business, but it looks like he’s on his way to Bayern, leaving Newcastle and Man Utd looking elsewhere.

  1. His release clause is 50M Euros, which is about £42.7M. Why just say £40M it’s rather lazy.

  2. There will be quite a a few get away from us in the pond we are fishing in especially when they are Champions league regulars with more revenues than us to spend.
