Earlier today, a bizarre rumour emerged from Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, who claimed that Newcastle had offered ‘€30m + Bruno Guimarães’ for Barcelona winger Raphinha.
It sounded like total nonsense and it seems to be exactly that, as Fabrizio Romano has responded with an update on the Brazilian’s future.
Romano reports that Newcastle see a contract extension for the 25-year-old as a top priority, revealing that ‘talks’ took place recently and will continue in the coming weeks.
He adds that the club are determined to extend his current deal at St James’ Park and are prepared to offer the former Lyon star a ‘huge salary increase.’
Barcelona may be keen on Bruno – who wouldn’t – but talk of him leaving this summer seems like a non-starter now we’ve qualified for the UEFA Champions League. He clearly loves life in the North East, is adored by fans and remains a massive part of our plans.
