Some big breaking news has landed late on Tuesday night, with The Athletic revealing that Newcastle United have launched a €50m bid (£43m) for AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali.
With Newcastle eager to bring in two top midfielders this summer, it’s believed Eddie Howe has targeted the 23-year-old as an ideal candidate to play as a No 8 or No 6, with the latter giving Bruno Guimaraes the freedom to play in a slightly more advanced role.
It seems we’re facing Premier League competition, however, as The Athletic’s Serie A correspondent James Horncastle states that Chelsea are also in the running.
Michele Criscitiello – the CEO of Sport Italia – is also reporting on our bid for Tonali, although the Italian journalist claims our bid is in the region of €60m (£51m).
Tonali is set to captain Italy at this summer’s Under-21 European Championships and has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Milan, helping them to the Champions League semi finals and first Scudetto in 11 years in 2022.
After strong links with Inter star Nicolo Barella last week, it sounds like we may now have turned out attentions to fellow Italian teammate and Milan rival Tonali.
