Newcastle battling to sign U20 World Cup star ahead of Man Utd and Chelsea – The Guardian

Newcastle are battling Man United, Chelsea and a handful of Bundesliga clubs for the signature of Gambian youngster Adama Bojang, according to The Guardian.

The 19-year-old is believed to be the latest rising star on our radar, with youth talents Garang Kuoul and Yankuba Minteh already signed and Hertha Berlin sensation Derry Scherhant also linked yesterday.

Bojang scored two goals for Gambia at the Under-20 World Cup last month and currently plays for Steve Biko FC, who are prepared to sell their star striker for €3m this summer.

It’s thought Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Tottenham and Wolves have also shown interest following his impressive displays in Argentina. The youngster also starred at the Under-20 African Cup of Nations, where he scored four times in six games for his country back in March.

The Guardian report that he currently favours a move to the Bundesliga after receiving an offer from an unnamed German club, but it ‘remains to be seen’ if that stance would change should a Premier League bid arrive.

The 6ft 2’ teenager has scored six goals in eight appearances for Gambia’s Under-20s and may be tempted to join fellow countryman Yankuba Minteh on Tyneside; the recently signed winger who arrived from the Danish league earlier this month.
