Newcastle officials ready to catch flight as they wait for green light on Sandro Tonali – Medical update

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are prepared to send club officials to Romania to oversee Sandro Tonali’s medical if we can finalise a deal with AC Milan in the coming hours.

The midfielder is set to captain Italy in their opening game of the UEFA European U21 Championships tonight, where they take on France (7.45pm kick-off) at the Cluj Arena.

Romano reports that we are ‘waiting for the final green light’ to board a flight to Romania, with the two clubs currently working on the structure of a £60m deal; which could rise to £64m with add-ons.

As you may remember, Steve Nickson made a similar trip 18 months ago, travelling to Brazil to tie up the formalities of Bruno Guimaraes’ move from Lyon to Newcastle.

This one feels like a matter of when, not if. Let’s hope a full agreement can be reached in the coming hours, allowing us to watch Tonali in action as a Toon player later on tonight!
