Harvey Barnes is expected to undergo a medical on Tyneside this weekend, with the player already booked in by the club’s medical team.
A medical had been pencilled in on the proviso Newcastle will agree a fee with Leicester City in the coming days and it’s believed a deal is now all but done.
There’s a strong expectation from all sides that a final agreement will be struck, giving Barnes the green light to head north and complete the formalities.
The player’s camp have already begun house-hunting, adding to widespread belief that it’s a matter of time until he becomes a Newcastle United player and relocates to the North East.
If all goes to plan and his medical is finalised over the weekend, Barnes will jet out to the US early next week and meet his new teammates. With the vast majority of Newcastle’s media team already in the US with the first-team squad, it’s likely that any announcement video or photos of Barnes in a Newcastle shirt will come next week, not over the weekend.
The fee is not yet clear, but a deal is expected to be worth in the region of £35-40m, with the 25-year-old set to replace the Saudi-bound Allan Saint-Maximin.
Barnes has played no part in the Leicester’s pre-season friendlies against Peterborough and Northampton. The Foxes squad jet to Thailand for their own summer tour on Thursday, but Barnes won’t be on the plane as he prepares to finalise a move to Newcastle.
