Newcastle set to launch £20.5m bid for versatile Brazilian? – Big claims from South America

According to reports in Brazil, Newcastle United have ‘decided’ to pursue Flamengo midfielder Victor Hugo.

This comes from Bolavip Brasil, who report that we’re about to submit a €24m (£20.5m) bid for the 19-year-old sensation who has already represented the club 63 times.

Hugo’s versatility could appeal to Newcastle, as he operated as a defensive, central and attacking midfielder over the 2022/23 season, occasionally filling in out wide.

Interestingly, the report states that our very own Bruno Guimaraes has ‘influenced’ Newcastle to invest in the teenage talent. This isn’t the first time we’ve been linked with the player and comes after previous bids for Flamengo teammate, Matheus Franca.

It would be a lot of money to spend on a relatively unproven youngster. However, we’ve seen Chelsea invest heavily in the Brazilian market, spending around £30m on the likes of Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel. Should these youngsters come good, these fees will soon seem like bargains.
