Fabian Schar update and Tino Livramento in action as training photos confirm Eddie Howe axe

Newcastle United have released photos of the team in training on Wednesday as we build up towards Saturday’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa.

Unfortunately, Fabian Schar doesn’t feature in any of the 27 pictures released by the club, suggesting he could be facing a race against time to make this weekend’s game.

The defender has had scans on his hamstring after limping off in our 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the US. Since then, he’s missed our last three pre-season friendlies, but Eddie Howe said on Saturday that he was “close” to resuming training. Let’s hope he’s back soon and fit for Saturday!

One player who has trained is new signing Tino Livramento, who appeared to have taken the number 21 following his move from Southampton.

This all but confirms that Ryan Fraser has been stripped of his number at the club. The winger previously wore 21, suggesting he’s been well and truly axed by Eddie Howe as he continues to train away from the first-team.

  1. Well and truly axed – as opposed to what – just being slightly axed?

If we have learned one thing from Eddie Howe’s time in charge, when he says Schar could return to training “soon” that could be anything from a couple of days to six months.
