According to reports, Newcastle United are showing interest in Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene, while West Ham have identified Kieran Tierney as a top target.
This comes from Steve Kay at FootballTransfers, who has told AnfieldWatch that both Newcastle and Liverpool have been in contact with Philogene’s representatives following an impressive pre-season under Unai Emery.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Cardiff, is an England U20 international an scored in their Premier League Summer Series win over Fulham, also caught the eye during their 3-3 draw with Newcastle over in the USA.
He can play down either flank and is in contention to start Saturday’s game at St James’ Park. As a result, Villa are hugely reluctant sellers and wouldn’t allow him to leave without a fight.
Elsewhere, FootballTransfers report that Kieran Tierney has emerged as a top target for West Ham; who are looking for an upgrade on Aaron Cresswell at left-back.
However, it’s thought the Scottish international isn’t sold on a move to the London Stadium. Tierney was heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park earlier in the window and remains a player of interest. As Kay revealed in May when speaking exclusively to NUFC Blog, it’s thought Eddie Howe is reluctant to spend big on the 26-year-old due to his recent injury record.
Tierney could be one to watch if he pursues a move away for game time or Arsenal’s asking price – previously at £35m – comes down, but any move for Philogene looks unlikely after his pre-season form under Unai Emery.
