Alan Shearer has named Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak in his Premier League Team of the Week, with Eddie Howe also featuring as his Manager of the Week.
Our former No 9 has also picked Toon target Joachim Andersen in his XI, with the centre-back impressing in Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win at Sheffield United.
Shearer believes the ‘outstanding’ Tonali ‘ran the midfield’ in our 5-1 win on Saturday, also picking the superb Anthony Gordon, saying Aston Villa right-back Matty Cash ‘didn’t know what day it was.’
The BBC and Premier League pundit then hailed Isak’s impressive brace, feeling the Swede looked ‘very sharp’ ahead of what promises to be a ‘huge season’ for our club-record signing.
Last but certainly not least, Shearer picks Howe for helping Newcastle pull off the result of the weekend, believing very few expected us to blow away a ‘strong’ Villa side. Here’s his Team of the Week in full, following his justification for picking Tonali, Gordon, Isak, Howe and Andersen:

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace)
“More than played his part in helping Palace keep a clean sheet against Sheffield United.”
Sandro Tonali (Newcastle)
“What a debut! He ran the midfield against Villa and looks outstanding in the black and white shirt.”
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle)
“Matty Cash didn’t know what day it was!”
Alexander Isak (Newcastle)
“Two goals and looked very sharp. He could be set for a huge season with Newcastle.”
Manager: Eddie Howe (Newcastle)
“Best result of the weekend without any question. Few would have expected that scoreline against a strong Villa side.”
