Robbie Savage shocks Newcastle fans ahead of tonight’s trip to Man City – A sign of the times?

Speaking ahead of tonight’s 8pm kick-off at the Etihad, Robbie Savage has backed Newcastle United to win a five-goal thriller against Pep Guardiola’s Man City.

He believes we’ll come away 3-2 winners in the ‘game of the weekend’, feeling the injured Kevin De Bruyne will be a big miss, with John Stones and Bernardo Silva also absent following Wednesday night’s Super Cup win over Sevilla.

The former Leicester midfielder often riled Newcastle fans with his constant defence of Steve Bruce just a few years ago, but he’s obviously impressed by Eddie Howe’s Mags and expecting us to give the treble-winners one hell of a game tonight.

Savage has hailed our 5-1 win over Aston Villa, praised Tonali’s superb debut and our ability to bring on the likes of Callum Wilson and Harvey Barnes from the bench, believing we’ll edge a game of goals at the Etihad.

Here’s what the BBC and TNT pundit has told Football365 ahead of the game:

‘Game of the weekend, Man City take on Newcastle.

‘Man City on the back of winning the Super Cup, I didn’t think they played that well, they had a bit of travel and no Kevin De Bruyne, out for three or four months. That’s a huge, huge blow. Looking at the team now, take away Kevin De Bruyne’s assists, Gundogan no longer at the football club, Mahrez. They have lost assists and goals.

‘Newcastle – what a start. Five goals against Aston Villa. Some people have tipped Aston Villa for the top four. They were magnificent. Tonali, what a debut. People coming off the bench to make an impact. Callum Wilson, Harvey Barnes.

‘Do not be surprised if there’s goals and quite a few of them. I’m going to go with Manchester City 2 Newcastle United 3.’

Let’s hope he’s right! HWTL.

  1. Bizzare. That’s what I’ve gone for on my SS. And a sneaky bet with two from Isak.
Canny odds so I’m not holding my breath, but this must be our best chance with De Bruyne and Stones injured. They’ll score because of Beowulf’s adversary, but we’ve got so much power in midfield and pace going forward….
