Eddie Howe signing ‘open’ to Newcastle exit after frustrating 12 months – Report

It emerged yesterday that Newcastle United have rejected loan bids from Nottingham Forest and Fulham for Matt Targett.

However, it’s emerged that the left-back is ‘open’ to a late move away from St James’ Park ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

This comes from NewcastleWorld, who report that the 27-year-old has grown frustrated at his lack of game time under Eddie Howe. Ironically, the full-back left Aston Villa 18 months ago in search of more minutes, but has started just two Premier League games since last September.

Not only did he lose his place to Dan Burn, we’ve now brought in highly-rated left-back Lewis Hall on a loan-to-buy deal from Chelsea, pushing Targett even further down the pecking order,

NewcastleWorld says Howe is aware of Targett’s concerns and has assured the former Southampton man that he’ll get opportunities to play, but the club would have a decision to make if a permanent bid arrived over the final three days of the window.

He signed for £15m last summer and is believed to be on hefty wages in excess of £60,000, so it wouldn’t surprise me if the club considered cash offers. After all, it’s a lot to be paying a third choice left-back who may be itching for game time elsewhere?
