BBC chief confirms surprise Newcastle call-up on Tuesday afternoon

As revealed by BBC journalist Ian Dennis, Newcastle United new boy Lewis Hall has been called up to train with the England senior England squad.

Hall was selected by England’s U20s, but has been invited to train with Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions side alongside Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys after Callum Wilson, Bukayo Saka and Levi Colwill were ‘not involved in training today.’

It’s thought Wilson’s absence is not injury related, with our No 9 doing some individual work indoors alongside Saka and Colwill. Kieran Trippier is with the group at St George’s Park, but there’s no Nick Pope after Palace’s Sam Johnstone was selected instead.

Back to Hall, it’s brilliant experience for the 18-year-old, who has already discussed his England ambitions after sealing a loan-to-buy move from Chelsea last month.

Elsewhere, Toon teenager Lewis Miley is with England’s U19 side, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes will represent Brazil over the break, Elliot Anderson has received a debut call-up to the senior Scotland team, with Alexander Isak (Sweden), Sandro Tonali (Italy), Miguel Almiron (Paraguay) and Martin Dubravka (Slovakia) also selected.

Fabian Schar was named in the Swiss squad, but it remains to be seen if he’ll withdraw after holding his hamstring in the final stages of Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Brighton.
