Newcastle talent joined by Real Madrid, Barcelona & Bayern stars as Golden Boy vote goes public

Newcastle youngster Lewis Hall has been nominated for the Golden Boy award alongside the likes of Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Barcelona’s Alejandaro Balde and Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala.

All nominees must be under the age of 21 and are selected by sports journalists, who’ve put forward a list of the most impressive young players from Europe’s top leagues over the past year.

There’s already been over three millions votes and our new signing currently ranks third in the list, with just Bellingham and Balde ahead of him as things stand.

Bellingham is currently topping the poll by quite a distance and looks set to win the 2023 prize, but Hall’s nomination highlights what an impressive breakthrough season he had for Chelsea during the 2022/23 campaign.

He was the shining light in an otherwise dismal season for the Blues and was often their standout player whenever he featured, demonstrating an impressive mix of pace, drive, aggression and quality in possession. The 18-year-old is yet to feature for Newcastle following his loan-to-buy move from Stamford Bridge, but it really does feel like we have a future star on our hands.

Here’s some of the previous winners of the Golden Boy award:

  • 2021 – Pedri (Barcelona)
  • 2020 – Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)
  • 2019 – Joao Felix (Benfica / Atletico Madrid)
