According to the reports, Sheffield United could have a new manager in place for Newcastle’s trip to Bramall Lane next Sunday.
An exclusive from The Mail reveals that Blades chiefs are sounding out a move for Chris Wilder after Saturday’s devastating defeat to Spurs; who scored twice in stoppage time to win 2-1 yesterday.
They reveal that current boss Paul Heckingbottom is a serious risk of the sack after their winless start to the season, which has seen them lose four and draw to Everton.
Wilder worked wonders at the South Yorkshire side between 2016 and 2021, guiding them from League One to the Premier League.
Since then, the 55-year-old has had disappointing spells with Middlesbrough and Watford. He’s currently out of work and is believed to have patched up his relationship with Saudi owner Prince Abdullah.
Hopefully an under pressure Heckingbottom is still in the job when we travel to Sheffield next Sunday, otherwise we may just see that ‘new manager bounce’ if Wilder makes a surprise return.
I wouldn’t believe a word of it if I were you – pure paper talk. Heckingbottom is doing a great job with both hands tied behind his back and has full support of fans and board.
