Steve Bruce reveals ‘brutal’ Mike Ashley message and truth behind £20m move – Watch here

Steve Bruce has revealed what life was like working under Mike Ashley, explaining his brutal approach each transfer window and how he operated.

Speaking to Simon Jordan on William Hill’s Up Front podcast, he said this about the former Toon owner:

“The one thing about Mike Ashley, he never told you any b******. ‘Here’s the pot of money we’ve got. ‘This is what the club’s earned this year’. This is what we’ve got. It’s not a lot. Never is. But that’s what we’ve got. So get on with it. He’d be as brutal as that.”

Bruce adds that Ashley would ‘never interfere’ or question his moves on or off the pitch, saying he worked closely with former CEO Lee Charnley instead.
