In what was a man of the match performance, Kieran Trippier showed off his elite defensive ability with an incredible sliding tackle in the final seconds of our 0-0 draw with AC Milan.
The on-field captain was immense both in his individual performance and in organising our defence on Tuesday night, with one tackle in particular applauded by Mags all over the world.
Milan were almost through down the left-hand side of our defence before the right-back sprinted across on the cover, produced a perfectly time tackle AND got back to his feet to keep the ball in before it went out of play, setting us away on a counter attack just as Milan threatened to break clear. The skipper had a great game overall, dealing with the double threat of Rafa Leao and Theo Hernandez admirably, but this moment just epitomised how much of a special player he is and how fortunate we are to have him.
It will be interesting to see how we manager the 33-year-old’s minutes in other competitions from now on, as he will no doubt be absolutely crucial in the rest of our Champions League fixtures.
