“What a night. No words to describe the pride I have in this team.” This was Amanda Staveley’s reaction to Wednesday night’s win at St James’ Park, as Newcastle’s co-owner posted a celebratory message on her Instagram story.
The historic win came almost exactly two years on from the takeover she pushed through, showing how far we’ve come in such a short space of time under Eddie Howe and new owners.
Staveley’s husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi also took to Instagram to share his delight, calling it an ‘incredible performance by a band of brothers’ after we blew away the French champions. Club chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan was in the stands and took to the pitch after the full-time whistle, having a kick about with that famous Champions League ball!
The board have worked absolute wonders behind the scenes so far. They’ve helped develop every aspect of the club and we’re already reaping the rewards way ahead of schedule thanks to their hard work, smart appointments and complete faith in Eddie Howe.
It’s incredible to think just how far we could go given more time and even more investment in the future if this is the level we are already competing at.
