According to reports in Spain, there’s a ‘secret clause’ in Bruno Guimaraes’ new contract that allows him to leave for Barcelona for a special price.
This comes from SPORT, who claim that the Brazilian dreams of a move to the Nou Camp and has insisted on a clause that allows the La Liga giants to sign him for 65-70 million euros; which is £56m-£60m.
It’s been reported that a release clause in the region of £100m does exist in his newly signed extension, but I don’t for a minute believe that we’ll have agreed to this ‘Barcelona escape clause.’
With add-ons, we signed the former Lyon star for around £41m. Since then, he’s become one of the top midfielders in the Premier League and become a regular in the Brazil side. Why on earth would the club agree to such a bargain for Barcelona. They may be in a mess financially. but we won’t be doing them favours like this for a £100m+ player.
One day, Bruno may want to play for one of the Spanish giants in Barcelona or Real Madrid. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case. But, for now, he seems to be loving life on Tyneside, thriving in the Premier League and is adored by us Geordies.
If someone comes in with £100m+, then who knows. But a cut-price clause for Barca that sees us barely make a profit on arguably our best player? No chance.

I think this is the original news piece. Not to be taken seriously. https://barcauniversal.com/newcastle-midfielder-has-secret-barcelona-clause-in-new-contract-could-cost-e65-70-million/

I’m a retired agent, and I have NEVER seen this happen in real life. I’m not saying it can’t, but it’s not something that would be considered a reasonable request. Clubs I’ve done business with would never go for it. That said, I never worked with any top European leagues, so…who knows. Does not have the ring of truth to me, though.
