Fabian Schar clause goes public as Newcastle star discusses his future from Switzerland

Swiss media outlet Blick report that there’s a clause in Fabian Schar’s contract that allows us to extend his deal until 2025, with the defender ‘hoping’ to stay at Newcastle beyond next summer.

Schar is currently away on international duty with Switzerland preparing for their game against Belarus, but has been speaking to Blick about his time at Newcastle, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old referred to Tyneside as his ‘second home’ and claimed that he has ‘never experienced such an atmosphere’ like St James’ Park.

Despite being left in the dark by former manager Steve Bruce, the centre-back has certainly come into his own under Eddie Howe and developed into one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League.

It’s still unclear whether this extension can be triggered by the player or the club, but with both parties very happy with our current form, it seems very likely to happen regardless.

Here’s what he had to say about Newcastle:

“I really enjoy it and I hope that this journey continues.

“Newcastle is my second home. The team, coach, club – I feel very comfortable.

“I have never experienced such an atmosphere.
