Newcastle move confirmed as former Man Utd and Bayern Munich man speaks out

Former Manchester United and Bayern Munich talent spotter Marcel Bout has told the Dutch media he’s joined Newcastle United’s scouting team.

Dutch newspaper AD have confirmed that the experienced 60-year-old will become our new head of global scouting, identifying ‘young talents between the ages of 16 and 23’ who are eligible for Eddie Howe’s first team.

Speaking to AD about the move, he said – “I have recently come into contact with Newcastle. The steady expansion of the club appeals to me. I’m also happy to be back in England and at Champions League level.”

Bout has previously worked as a coach at Feyenoord, then had spells with Louis Van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar, Bayern Munich and Manchester United, where he worked as their head of global scouting.

It’s believed he’s already started his role on Tyneside and will be tasked to find some of the best emerging talent across the world, following on from recent moves for Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol.

Great to see Newcastle expanding their scouting department and recruiting someone of Bout’s experience and expertise, with moves for young prospects able to develop into first-team stars a key part of Dan Ashworth’s plan to overcome FFP restrictions.
