Amanda Staveley pictured at London meeting as Premier League vote goes in Newcastle’s favour

Newcastle United are now free to sign players on loan from PIF-owned Saudi Pro League clubs after Premier League rivals failed to pass a ban on related-party loans by a single vote.

Co-owner Amanda Staveley was pictured representing Newcastle at the vote in London, which saw clubs vot 13-7 in favour of temporary bans on related-party transactions.

However, they needed a minimum of 14 votes in order for the motion to pass, meaning clubs with the same owners are free to trade in January, with attempts to impose a ‘temporary ban’ failing.

This applies to other clubs too – Crystal Palace’s connection with Lyon, Nottingham Forest’s with Olympiacos and Brighton’s link to Union Saint-Gilloise – but a lot of talk has centred around Newcastle’s alleged interest in Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves.

Newcastle are now free to make a loan deal for the former Wolves midfielder if they so wish, although The Athletic reported earlier today that the Portuguese star is likely to stay in Saudi Arabia.
