It’s been a brilliant night for Newcastle United, who beat Chelsea 4-1 in a superb win at St James’ Park, but there’s some bad news on the injury front concerning Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff.
Speaking to the press after the game, Eddie Howe admitted Willock has suffered a recurrence of the Achilles injury that he was out with earlier in the season, saying it’s “huge blow” and a really tough one to take after he pulled up in training yesterday.
Howe also revealed that Longstaff ‘wasn’t close’ to playing today and “probably won’t” be fit in time for Tuesday’s crucial trip to PSG in the UEFA Champions League.
Here’s what he told the press when asked for an update on Willock’s absence today:
“It looks like a recurrence of the Achilles injury that he had a few weeks ago It’s a massive blow for us, we don’t know how long he’ll be out, he has to seek specialist advice. But it’s a huge blow for us.
“Very hard for everyone to take yesterday, especially because it’s another reoccurrence. That’s the frustrating thing.”
