A visibly devastated Eddie Howe has reacted to the shambolic penalty decision that denied us a heroic win at PSG last night.
The boss insists it was “not a penalty”, sharing his bemusement after the ball hit Tino Livramento’s chest before rebounding off his hand; which was in a low and natural position at the point of contact.
Howe was unable to say too much, admitting “I can’t say my inner thoughts”, but he made a mockery of Mikel Arteta’s rant just a few weeks ago. Our decision was far worse, the stakes were far higher, yet Howe was a class act (watch below) despite a 98th-minute robbery that denied us our biggest away win in the club’s history.
"You summed it better than I could because I'm not allowed to… I share every thought that you have."

“It’s not a penalty when it hits his chest first and then hits his hand, which is low. His hand is not in an unnatural position. He is running and they are in a running motion. I think it’s a poor decision and it’s hugely frustrating for us.”
“I’m not allowed to sum it up. I can’t say my inner thoughts obviously [I’d get in trouble]. I thought the referee was having a good game up until this moment. He had been strong.
“I’m still coming to terms with it. I feel really flat but at the same time really pleased with what the players gave today. Their commitment, execution… We rode our luck. We ran out of luck at the end. I didn’t think it was a penalty.
“What you don’t take into account with those replays is how quick the ball goes. It hits his chest first. If it hits his hands first, well it’s still not a penalty because he’s so close. But you can make more of a case.”
Nice to see Arteta still occupies that penthouse appartment rent free.

No ranting from Eddie, what a brilliant team performance, regardless of being robbed.
Aye,exposes arteta & his petulance.

It’s spelt ‘excellence’ mate, not ‘petulance’.

A ‘quiet’ rant from Howe. Nice to see he is on the wrong side of another refereeing error.

” Ally McCoist branded it a “disgrace”, while Jermaine Jenas said Newcastle were “robbed” as a controversial late penalty decision denied Eddie Howe’s side a memorable victory at Paris St-Germain. ” With Don Howe. They’ve all gone on a RANT. ANYONE IN THE MEDIA CALLING THEM OUT?

Can you really not see the difference in the way Howe conducted himself vs the Arteta meltdown a couple weeks ago?
There’s no histrionics from Howe, who tells it like it is but never throws the toys out of the pram. An example of how such complaints should be voiced.
By the way, Jenas and McCoist are correct, it was never a penalty. so it was a robbery. Bear in mind McCoist has no association to Newcastle.
Contrast to Arteta’s rant: which summed up basically as it’s not fair they scored I can’t point out exactly why but it’s not fair. A rant basically basically to mask that his team had 1 shot on target all game and that’s the real reason they lost.
The whole of the ball was not proved over the line, the “foul” on Gabriel was not clear and obvious and subjective, the offside couldn’t be proved but likely the ball wasn’t played forward from what we can see.

Look at all these Newcastle fans, beheading for the moral high ground.
